greenish colored discharge

greenish colored discharge

my mom died 4 mos ago from  breast cancer and b-4 she did, she made me promise that I wouldn't ignore anything. I now have a greenish discharge from the right breast, left is clear and milky. I had a mammogram last dec.  showing no mass on the r. breast. but had a large mass removed from under the left armpit. this was "excess breast tissue". I have a 5 yr old and  am  not pregnant. I never breast fed but did get engorged 3 days after she was born. have you ever heard of  this??? I'm scared to tell my doctor and feel freakish... please advise.

Dear Mcmom, Many women have some type of nipple discharge or fluid when their breasts are squeezed, and it is normal. Squeezing the nipple sends message to the brain and the pituitary gland responds by increasing prolactin levels, which in turn produces discharge from the nipple.  The discharge can come in a variety of colors

I've had olive-green fluid in my breasts for years, which only comes out if the breast is compressed. Wet smears have been taken and there has not been evidence of pathology via that route. Could you tell me, what is the "excess breast tissue" that needed to be removed?

I'd sure go to the library and get Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book, and others, so that you can be as well-informed as possible. And I would tell the doctor. Remember, medical people have seen and heard everything. If you're not comfortable speaking with this particular doctor, perhaps you might seek out someone else, but it would be good if you did some homework first so you can maximize the visit.
