Ok, I'm hoping for some peace of mind here. My 25 y/o daughter asked me to check her right breast past Tuesday for a lump she (or her b/f) found the night before. I figured she found a fibroid cyst, which is a hard, but very lumpy thing. At first, I did feel exactly that, but then continuing the exam, I found a hard bb-size "object" or lump. Now that got ME worried, and I couldn't let it show. I asked her what her b/f said, and she said to get it checked out--thus come to mom! LOL. I agreed with him, and suggested she make an appt with the doc asap. We have a huge family history of breast cancer, among other cancers, with my mom being the latest victim of the big "C." She passed away when she was 64, back in 2004 of adenocarcinoma. No autopsy because she died at home with Hospice and my dad didn't think about it until after she was cremated! Too late dad! I have h/o of ductal carcinoma, dx'd in 2006, no radiation/chemo though. It doesn't move, at all, and it's not painful she said. Problem is because she didn't have insurance a while back (and only does know because of Obama--at least thru end of January), and she had problems with ovarian cysts (lots), so vaginal u/s were done, which cost money, and she was unable to pay the balance, and sent to collection. Bottom line --gyno won't see her because of it! Best we can do is PCP appt, and hoping he orders BOTH mammogram and u/s so we both have all info possible before she runs out of insurance!
Researching this, I saw "fibroidadenomas" mentioned, and looked it up. Doesn't describe her at all. I'm still in the frame of mind (trying desperately) to think it's a benign lump. I haven't told her a thing about what I found, and won't. But I'm better at knowing worse case scenario so I'm not caught off guard for her, and then always pleasantly surprised when it's not. I also know that because of her age, her breasts are more dense. Any other ideas I can research? Thanks.
