help interpretting Mammo and ultrasound results

by audjbr, Nov 04, 2009 09:28PM
Hi,
I am about to turn 38 and just had my first mammogram in October..and was called back. I went back 2 days ago for a diagnostic mammogram and ended up having an ultrasound too.  I have been told I need to have a biopsy...

I have a copy of the report and need help interpreting the results...it states:
there is a lobulated circumscribed trilobed mass approx 1cm with some increased vascularity on Doppler and some acoustical shadowing .  There are no associated calcifications and the mass is solid and hypoechoic.   I go to the surgeon next week, but in the meantime if someone could tell me if this is leaning towards being benign or malignant..I would appreciate it!!  Thanks!!

Dear audjbr, this report does sound somewhat concerning, and I think it is understandable that you would be anxious, even if this turns out to be not cancer, and I really do not know the answer to this, and that is why you are having a biopsy.

I want to ask you something. Did the report say anything else, like list a birads category, and which is usually, or always a number between 0 and 5?

I am so sorry you have to deal with this at your age. like I said I think, it sounds a bit worrisome, but that is all I am able to share because it's all I know.

Please let us know, and/or write before you find out for more support, OK?

Hi Kat,
Thanks for responding to my post.  The BIRADS was a 4.  I had a biopsy on the 19th and go back for results on the 24th..so kinda anxious!  But I will keep you posted!

Thanks
Aud
