her2 neu-positive for overexpression

I have finished my regular chemo but still have to do Herceptin through September 2010. My doctor does not tell me if i am going to be alright. I was staged at IIA, High-Grade DCIS. I had or still have ( I don't Know) paget's disease of the nipple and Colloid mucinous adenocarcinoma. Please can someone tell me what this all means. I have a small child and want to know what i am in store for. I have Her2neu: positive for overexpression. Will Herceptin really take away my cancer

I'm sorry but no one can tell you with 100% certainty that you will be alright. With any form of cancer it all depends on the course of treatment and how the cancer responds to the treatment. Herceptin will not take away your cancer ... the cancer depended upon this for growth (hence the positivity) and Herceptin will act much the same as Tamoxifen for cancers that are hormone receptor positive. It will reduce the amount of what was needed for growth of that particular cancer and will lessen the chance of recurrance. The Chemotherapy you received was the part of the treatment that would be expected to "kill" the cancer cells. You didn't mention if you had any type of surgery as part of your treatment OR if you have been advised to have Radiation in addition to the Chemo.   Regards ..
