herceptin and chemotherapy

by horacio, May 22, 2007 12:00AM
Hello

I am 54 years old, postmenopausal with a breast cancer recently diagnosed as invasive ductal carcinome G2. After radical mastectomy all the 11 lymph node were negative.
The tumor was found to be pT1c N0 Mx, 1,5 cm, E-, P-, being ductal invasive with 75% intraductal component. It shows to be c-erb B2 positive(3+).
My question is concerning the necessity to be submitted to chemotherapy (4xAC) and herceptin during one year or only herceptine without any kind of chemotherapy.

Thanks
Horacio

Standard treatment would be AC for 4 cycles followed by taxol and herceptin. Herceptin alone is not standard therapy, but will probably be effective. It may be hard to find an oncologist willing to give herceptin alone, unless there is a clinical trial of such enrolling patients.
