hormone v herceptin

My friend was diagnosed three years ago with breast cancer HER 2 POSITIVE.SHE had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy, then Arimedex. Two years ago two hotspots returned in her hip and her back, the ONCOLOGIST changed hormone therapy to EXAMESTENE .She has had two doses of radiation tretment .On going to see a new oncologist she HAS BEEN ADVISED TO START HERCEPTIN ASAP.after the relevant chemo........A complete change in treatment regime........the obvious question ....should she change...are the advantages so significant...thanks

I hesitate to answer questions concerning a "friend" as I abide by a strict rule of Privacy for the Pt. I will say that when a cancer is found to be ER/PR positive and Her2 positive then the standard is Hormone therapy plus Herceptin administration as part of the treatment plan. I do think this is a matter between the pt. and her Oncologist.  Regards ....

I am a stage III'er that is Her2/neu.  I don't know the whole story but she should have had Herceptin from the get go if she was dx Her2.  I don't have enough information but I would highly recommend a 2nd and even 3rd opinion asap.  Go out of Network to different doctors...that's very important.  To make good decisions you must be well informed and know all your options.  Her2 bc as you probably know is very aggressive so it needs to be attacked aggressively.

Please seek a 2nd opinion asap so she will have peace of mind and know whats the best road to take from here.  Hang in there.
