hurting lump

hurting lump

I was diagnosed with a pea sized lump in my right breast about almost 2 years ago. It is on the inner side of breast, in the tissue. But recently (2days now) I was having pain in the same breast. Today I felt it and its a lump right above and left of my nipple. It hurts when I press on it and even last night laying on my side. Do cancerous lumps hurt, or do just the cysts? My grandma died of breast cancer at 35 years old. I'm supposed to have a mamogram (mammogram) every 6 mos because of the other lump, but it's to expensive. Please help. Can you also direct me to a free or low cost mamogram (mammogram). It's cancer awareness month, so maybe I could have it checked. Thank you.  sky3po.

Dear sky3poo:  In most cases, breast cancer does not hurt.  That is not to say that it couldn't.  Given your family history, it is prudent to keep up with the regular examinations.  Most health insurance should cover mammography if it is prescribed.  If not the American Cancer Society has programs that offer low or no cost mammograms for people with financial need.  You might contact your local chapter and see if this program would work for you.
