i had done a ultrasonogram test in my breast due to pain and the feeling of a lump. the results say that the fibroglandular areas appear dense with presence of few clear cysts seen scattered throughout these ares.the size of the cystic areas are about 3 MM in diameter and smaller. the appearance of fibroglandular areas with the cystic regions of rt. breat are suggestive of changes due to  fibrocystic disease.does that mean i have breast cancer?my age is 45 years.

Hi,
There are different types of lumps that can occur in the breast. Non cancerous lumps can be cysts, fibroadenomas and other benign tumors.
No one knows the cause of these benign lumps, though we do know that they are somehow related to hormonal variations.
Cysts are more common in women approaching menopause than in younger women.
Eliminating caffeine from your diet (Coffee, chocolate, colas and energy drinks)can be helpful to lessen the pain in your breasts.Primrose oil has shown to reduced size of lumps, also Vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects breast tissue against fibrocystic breasts.
Like "cindym264"  mentioned, simple cysts are harmless, but they should be monitored, and a woman should check frequently her breasts in order to find and control the cysts.
It's advisable to do SBE ( self breast exam) each month, one week after the start of your menstrual cycle.Practicing SBE is very important to detect an abnormality.
Simple cyst,as mentioned before are harmless and they are usually left alone because they do NOT turn into cancer..However if they enlarge considerably or are painful, a simple fine needle aspiration can be done and the cyst will collapse.
Before taking any Vitamins, please talk to your doctor first.
Wishing you all the best..

What are fibrocystic breasts?

Fibrocystic breasts are characterized by lumpiness and usually discomfort in one or both breasts. The condition is very common and benign, meaning that fibrocystic breasts are not malignant (cancerous). Fibrocystic breast disease (FBD), now referred to as fibrocystic changes or fibrocystic breast condition, is the most common cause of "lumpy breasts" in women and affects more than 60% of women. The condition primarily affects women between the ages of 30 and 50 and tends to become less of a problem after menopause.

The diagnosis of fibrocystic breasts is complicated by the fact that the condition can vary widely in its severity. In some women, the symptoms of fibrocystic breast condition can be very mild with minimal breast tenderness or pain. The symptoms can also be limited in time, usually occurring only premenstrually. It may not even be possible to feel any lumps when the breasts are examined by the woman herself or by her doctor. In other women with fibrocystic breasts, the pain and tenderness are constant, and many lumpy or nodular areas can be felt throughout both breasts.
