is there a difference?

is there a difference?

Is there a difference b/w an intraluminal lesion and an intraductal lesion? If so, if it were malignant, would the prognosis be different?

Hi there.

The classification of luminal or basal lesions are introduced a few years ago and these are both subtypes of intraductal cancers.  Intraluminal ductal cancers have a more favorable prognosis compared to the basal lesions.  The basal lesions have a more tendency to be high grade, more metastatic potential, and the more frequent occurrence of triple negatives (hormone receptor and Her2Neu receptor negative).  Luminal cancers fortunately, are more common than the basal type intraductal cancers.

Regards.
