is waiting 2.5 weeks for results a good sign?

Had a stereotactic core biopsy on 15th July, as mammo showed 5 very faint microcalcifications in a small cluster, with a non-palpable mass, already know from ultrasound and FNA that there are multiple small cysts in same breast. Also had CEA test, normal results, in May for ovarian cyst, so I 'm probably 99% sure my result will be benign, I've read so much about the symptoms and signs, and when left to my own devices my certainty about being ok stays high,......but then different friends have suggested that I should prepare myself for being told otherwise, and occasionally get 'wobbly'.  Breast clinic say my results are back with my consultant, who has to sign them off, then they will write to my GP, so I'll hear mid week or so next week, is this long wait a good sign?

Hi, many thanks for all your replies, I really appreciate you taking the time to respond, and for your support.

When I rang consultant's secretary,on the 14th day after biopsy, she said this is quite soon, and wouldnt expect results until the week after, consultant has the, and has to sign them off, before writing to my GP. On pressing her for estimate on when to expect letter, she agreed maybe mid week, this makes it around Wed this week.  I suppose with being NHS this is standard, though even if it was private practice theres no guarantee I'd have had results sooner.

I've convinced myself I'll get benign result, bearing in mind I had CEA test normal result in May, when ovarian cyst being investigated. Ovaries removed as prophylactic measure only, which means eostrogen has stopped, giving me less chance of BC in future.

Of course I'll let you know what happens, bless you all for your support.

2.5 weeks IMO is unacceptable.   Please call your "consultant" and ask for your results.   Most ordering physicians are aware of pathology results within 3-4 days.
I hope all is fine and they are just delayed in their communication with you!

I would be very upset to have to wait that long for test results. I think I'd make a phone call and have a few things to say to them. That wait is one of the most stressful times in a persons life. Shame on them. Best wishes to you that it's all great news!

I think this pretty much definitely means that your results are benign as if they were not, you would have known by now.

I think it is terrible they make you wait so long. A week is enough?

Hang in there, Katrin

I think that is a very long time to wait!

Many women are informed of their biopsy results within as little as 3-5 days, to keep them from having to live in anxiety for weeks. Often, the person who did the biopsy  (and who is very familiar with discussing the findings) will go over the results with the pt., not make her wait  for a  PCP, who is likely to be less familiar with them, and has only gotten the info 2nd or 3rd hand...

But I guess this is handled differently in different places.

Best wishes...

Let's see, that was two weeks ago? I wouldn't read anything bad into that time frame.
Sometimes, labs get bogged down and overwhelmed with a heavy workload. Then, the pathologist has to prepare an interpretation/ report. Then, the results have to be forwarded to your doctor. Then, your doctor has to relay that information to you. So, it's really not that long of a wait... but, it sure can feel like an eternity!

Good luck with your results.
