larger breast, cyclical pain

Hi, a question. I'm 35, no children, in good health. My left breast is noticably larger than the right, probably slightly less than a cup size(left almost b, right a). I never really noticed this difference until a few years ago, maybe 5 or so. I think it may be due to breasts getting a little larger, gaining a few (10 or so) pounds over the past few years. My breasts seemed to be much smaller 10 years ago. Also have cyclical breast pain and slight swelling of both breasts in the week or two prior to period. Left breast is more painful during prementstrual period and is also sometimes itchy--not constantly at all, but a bit from time to time during premenstrual window. All swelling and pain subside the second day of my period. There are no lumps and no health care providers have expressed concern in the past. I am just wondering if these symptoms may be something to worry about. I have no other breast symptoms (no skin or nipple abnormalities or puckering, etc.) No known family history of breast cancer. Normal onset of menstrual period (14 years). No use of birth control pills. No excessive alcohol use. Generally healthy diet/excercise 5-6x per week. Thanks for your input. MD

Dear MD:  Most women's breasts are not exactly the same size.  For some the difference is greater than others.  Also, it is normal to have swelling and discomfort in the week(s) prior to ones menstrual cycle.  Nothing you mention gives cause for worry.
