long term effects?

long term effects?

10 years ago i had radiotherapy and a lumpectomy. i have always had discomfort in my shoulder and arm on the same side. recently pains in the muscle and joints in my arm have become very bad and are keeping me from sleeping. my local doctor has prescribed temelgesic painkillers. these help but do not solve the problem. could this problem be as a result of radiotherapy that could be treated in some way. my oncologist has told me that i had much higher doses than would be given today.

Dear raineron,  A possible complication of radiation therapy is brachial plexopathy.   Which is an irritation to the network of nerves that supply the arm, forearm and hand, which in turn could lead to pain and discomfort.  I do not know if this is what is happening in your situation.   Your situation would need to be evaluated, reviewing the history of your symptoms within the context of a physical exam, and possible further testing (X-rays etc.).   If brachial plexopathy is found to be the problem, a physician specializing in pain management may be of help in treating the symptoms.
