So about a month ago I noticed 'something' going on with my right breast...I have implants so I thought a ridge a ripple...I kept checking it daily and it's a lump...right under my nipple.  now 2 weeks ago I stepped on a nail so I was put on antibiotic for possible bacterial infection as a precaution and I scheduled my yearly physical...the breast would produce fluid when the lump was palpated...now it does not. I have been using heating pads on the breast as told my my doc...still there...they are ordering a mamogram and ultrasound....I am 36 and have not had one before so am just wondering what to expect?

It depends on if you have the digital or the traditional.  For the traditional up in NY, you cut out coffee about a week before it, no deoderant the day of the test, no perfumes or body lotions on the breasts.  You undress and put on a paper gown, go in the roomwith the tech, they ask you questions about family history, your health, the usual stuff.  Then depending on the type of mammogram and machine, the older ones they put a beebee taped to your nipple if newer machines they don't do this, and then you step over to the machine.  Your breasts go between the xray plates in different positions.  It does smart a little and if your breasts are wider and they go closer to your armpit they do hurt but it's not a horrible end of the world pain, just a smart for a few minutes. Sometimes the mammo's leave bruises tiny ones. They will do the mammo, if an ultrasound is needed they may call your dr and do one at the time of the mammo or have you return for one, usually with any lump it's standard to have one, it defines what the mammogram shows.  Let us know how you make out.
