lump

I am 29 years old and have no family history of breast cancer
I have had this lump about the size of a marble on my upper right ribcage for about 6 years now. It has not grown and is very movable. I once messed with it alot and it got really sore and hurt but then the pain went away and have had no problems since. I have had a chest exray since then and nothing showed up but I doubt it would on a chest xray. It is not on the breast inself and cysts seems to run on my dad's side of the family. Could this be what this is? Thankyou

Dear shubunkin, It very well could be a cyst and that sounds like what you are describing.  If you notice a change in this lump that should prompt further evaluation.

Most likely either a sebaceous cyst (plugged oil gland) or a lipoma (harmless fatty tumor.) A lump which is moveable and stable for 6 years is extremely unlikely to be anything significant. Sebaceous cysts have some chance of becoming infected. Lipomas are removed if they bug a person enough. A small simple office procedure either way.
