lumpectomy scar

I had a lumpectomy on May 21, 2008 to remove a small, early breast cancer.  I have just begun radiation therapy.  My scar itself has turned a pinkish color and there is an area of skin that is numb and rubbery feeling alongside of it.  Is this normal and do you know what might cause this?

Dear karen315:  Without evaluation, it is impossible for us to speculate on what this might be.  There are several possible explanations.  You should bring this up to your surgeon and/or the radiation oncologist who can examine you and provide some insight as to what this is.

This could very well be due to the radiation ... you should ask your Oncologist about something to help with the skin side effects of radiation. The numbness may be due to some nerve damage done during surgery which can't be helped.
