lumpectomy

I have had a lumpectomy due to changes seen in my stereotactic biopsy.  the results are:  Atypical ductal hyperplasia, atypical columnar cell hyperplasia and lobular carcinoma in situ.  Proliferative fibrocystic change with intraductal papilloma and calcifications.  No definite ductal carcinoma in situ or invasive carcinoma identified.  The atypia is scattered throughout this sepcimen and focally severe.

I go to the Oncologist in a couple of weeks.  To tell you the truth, I feel I may be undertreated.  Will the oncologist go with this lumpectomy or further surgery?  I read on this site that if you have atypical ductal hyperlasia that massectomy is usually done.  I have more than just atypical ductal hyperplasia.

Well, I have so much atypia that it is scattered throughout this specimen and focally severe.  Would I only assume that this area is the only area with severe atypia?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Dear Kathy320: Atypical ductal hyperplasia is a precancerous condition. It is not cancer but having had it does increase the risk for developing a cancer.  The treatment is to remove the atypical ductal hyperplasia.  Unless there is concern in other areas of the breast, no further treatment would be required, only close surveillance.
