lupron and dosage

Hi there,

I am on the three month shot (22.5mg) of Lupron for breast cancer.  Everything I see advises a lower dose for women and this does for prostate cancer.  I know my doctor is not too familiar with giving Lupron to breast cancer patients.  Someone else I know gets the lower dose 11.5mg every three months.  What is the correct dose for breast cancer and is the high dose safe?

Thanks.

The most well studied dose of Lupron for breast cancer is 3.6 mg monthly. The longer acting formulations have mostly been studied in prostate cancer, however, are sometimes substituted for the monthly formulation for patient convenience. While the 11.5 mg dose every 3 months correlates more closely with the 3.6 mg monthly dose, some patients may require different dosing schedules for adequate suppression of ovarian function. You may wish to discuss this further with your oncologist.
