mammogram after reexcision

I am having a mammogram week after next. It will have been 1 month after a reexcision for DCIS. It was right under the nipple and has been painful. The pathology report showed that a tiny spot is 1 millimeter instead of the 2 they hope for. The oncologist wants to be sure there is'nt more DCIS that was'nt removed. The surgeon thinks that if radiation can't clean that spot up, what's the point of radiation. Before they decide on radiation and not more surgery I have to have this mammogram. I don't know if I can stand the pain, but I guess I have to. How have others who went through this dealt with it? If I do need more surgery, the surgeon feels a mastectomy would have the best cosmetic result (with reconstruction later) because of the location and the fact that I've had 3 surgical biopsies, 1 reexcision and this would be one more surgery near my nipple all in the right breast. The breast looks o.k. to me now and I hope the radiation will be the answer to get rid of all DCIS. Thanks in advance for any suggestions on dealing with the mammogram.

You might ask for some type of mild sedation and be sure the Mammogram done by your institution is "Digital" ... quicker and less painful. Be sure that the Radiologist and Technician know your circumstances as I'm sure they will take this into consideration.  Best wishes ......

Thank you for your quick answer, I will ask for some mild sedation and check to see if they have "Digital". I did'nt know there was such a thing that's quicker and less painful.
