mammogram results

I got my mammogram results and the findings were not good. There was an area of increased density in the upper left mid and breast. The area is somewhat spiculated with several microcalcifications in the region. An ultrasound was done and shows a 1.1x0.9x0.8 irregular hypoechoic lesion
There is also what is said to be benign appearing calcifications in the right breast, but no microcalcifications or masses noted. A biopsy was recommended, but what kind of Dr. does that? Do I go to a surgeon or a gynecologist? What does the results of my mammogram mean? I'm tired of the Dr sugarcoating things to me and making me think everything is fine and this is just routine. I am strong enough to handle the word cancer, but I do not need to be misled or lied to until the final diagnoses is made. Please help.

My mom got me a book called The Breast Book. written by women doctors about women. Up to date and VERY good. It will explain a lot, and it is very helpfull to me. I am waiting to have biopsy of my right breast, because the found atypical cells. I don't think that what you have is too bad or cancer, but I do not know that much.  I hope all turns out well. I do think that it is an oncologist you see, a brast cancer specialist is the best I would think, or someone with lot's of breast experience.   Lisan

The biopsy is done by a radiologist, usually after a mammogram and ultrasound tests. Both tests cannot say for sure what the mass is.Only a biopsy can definitely tell you if the lesion is benign or malignant.I don't think your doctor is sugarcoating things...sometimes they have enough expertise, in viewing the mammogram imaging, to lean more one way than the other.Of course his opinion is not 100% accurate as is a biopsy.Don't jump to the conclusion that you have cancer, not all spiculated lesions are necessarily cancerous.Keep positive thoughts, because the hardest part is the waiting time for the results.Hoping that the biopsy will turn negative for cancer.Best wishes and good luck.
