microcalifications

Hi i had an excisional done in nov 2008 for microcalifications in right breats my queston is i am a little nervous about my mamo which i am due for next week.  what is the percentage that  these microcalifications comming back l and what are the chance of possible cancer if they did come back.

Calcifications are and indication that the breast is reacting to some abnormality within the breast tissue .... this abnormality can be either benign or cancerous. Calcifications appear normally scattered thoughout the breast but when they are found to be grouped or clustered it is then that they require further investigation to determine the cause. They do not really "return" the way you seem to indicate. Regards .....

japdip is right... it isn't so much that they "return;" however, you can develop more,
even in the exact same location. And, on that same thought, one can't assume that the newly formed calcifications are of the same nature as the previous ones. Only a biopsy can determine that.
I had a surgical biopsy of calcifications in my right breast in 2005. Then, 2 years later... more calcifications were noted in almost the exact same location as the previous ones. With the second occurrence, I had the stereotactic (needle) biopsy.
In both cases, they were found to be benign.
Now, as to why more developed?
My surgeon speculated that it was very possible that the act of "cutting" during the surgical procedure may have, in fact, stimulated the new growths.
