more about breast lumps

It's true that the bumps on the areola area occur as a reaction to cold, but I was worried because although they disappear when feeling warm, it is always the same bumps that occur again when feeling cold; that is, bumps occur in the same place. Could they be lumps? Thanks and sorry for asking too many questions but I found your help very useful.

Dear charlenecohen:  The bumps on your areola that occur due to cold always occur in the same place because of the anatomy of your skin.  This is entirely normal.  A breast lump describes a growth that does not come and go.

If you were to map goosebumps when you get them, you'd see they always occur in the same place, because they have to do with skin anatomy -- the location of hair follicles. The areolae have similar fixed anatomy. A "lump", in terms of breast pathology, and as has been implied in the responses you have received, is something that is present, remains present, doesn't come and go.
