I had a leasion removed from my breast and was found to be Atypical lobular hyperplasia.
I am suppose to see an oncologist reguarding options I may wish to use to prevent breast canser in the about 15 years.  The RX spoken of are Aromatase inhibitors.  I can not take Tamoxfin due to blood clots and having 3 strokes. I am 57 years old.  What are the side effects of this Rx and where could I look up the test results?  I do not even know if I want to do this.  I am so confused.

Hi,

The main issue is that you are confused about the further management plan in your case.

You need to call and schedule an appointment with your doctor or oncologist and talk to him/her in detail about aromatase inhibitor's - the possible side effects, which one would be prefferred in your case and if you have any other options.

You should go ahead with the treatment as this is known to increase the disease free survival and prevent recurrence or metastasis.

You could read up more about these drugs on the following sites -

http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/aromatase-inhibitors

http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_4_4X_Hormone_Therapy_5.asp

But still, it would be best to talk to your doctor about this in detail and clear all your doubts.

Do let us know how you are doing.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.
