I also had a lumpectomy, but a bigger tumor, had a Radiation called BRACHYTHERAPY (mammosite),  it is a local Radiation it will not affect yout lungs or heart, however, all Radiation treatments will affect your immune system. Check Google (Robert Kiuske MD) it explains all about it.
My stage was 1, but all cancers are different. What is the Score in your Onco-Test?.Talk to your Oncologist and let him explain the pros and
contras.BRACHYTHERAPY is done in five days, twice a day. But remember, IT IS YOUR DECISION, NOBODY ELSE.
Good Luck, and God Bless!!

You really need to discuss this with your doctor(s) who know all the characteristics of your tumor and general health.  I also had a grade one cancer, .5 cm, ER+/PR+, Her2 positive with wide, clean margins and no positive lymph nodes out of 19.  The Her2 positive raised my Oncotype score to 31.  I had a mastectomy followed by chemo, (taxotere, carboplatin and herceptin.)  Herceptin is for a full year followed by 5 years of tamoxifen.  Even one aggressive characteristic of a tumor is enough to need aggressive followup.

There is a trend in treating cancers, supported by recent studies of very small tumors, that early aggressive treatment achieves a lower rate of cancer recurrance.  Nobody wants to do radiation or chemo, but if it significantly lessens the rate of recurrance (for me from over 30% to less than 10%) it is worth considering and weighing against side effects (which are mostly temporary, even if severe.)

Alidi's advice to discuss this with your oncologist is good.  Don't be afraid to ask questions.  Do your research and write them down and get a good perspective of your situation and what treatment is available that will do you the most good.  I am thinking of you.
