odd pain sensations

I have finished my second round of chemo...only 4 more to go...after the initial first round of chemo days 6-10 were horrible, partly because i had this WEIRD pain that started in my upper spinal area and throbbed its way down to the hip area and then spread across hip/pelvic area.

The pain was so bad that it took my breath away.  It subsided after 2 day.  I mentioned it to my oncologist and he said it was from the Neulasta....

I finished my second round and the pain came about day 9..and i still have it...it is not constant, but unexpected and at odd times....

Is it from the Neulasta?  Has anyone experienced anything like this???  Will this go away eventually???

Hi,
You are right when you say the low feeling post chemotherapy. But then you should not let these overcome you. Be strong and talk to your family and friends often. That would be a great emotional support.

Also continue with your regular workouts including walking and bike riding. These would help to keep you active and also help to keep you busy.

I know it is wasier said than done - but try to STAY POSITIVE.

Do get back if you have any doubts.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

my oncologist said to take some ibuprophen on day 5 (the day before it seems to hit) and if the pain still occurs to take a 5 mg of percocet....he said walking was good, so was bike riding...

now if i could only do that during these low days....after the first ten days, i feel fine...back to my old self...i can work out then....its hard to stay motivated during the first 10 days after chemo.....

i will ask him about the bone scan when i have my next round of chemo.......

thanks again!

Hi,
And what did your oncologist say about pain relief mediaction and physical therapy. Also a warm compresses and local application of some analgesic gel would be helpful.
Try it for a couple of weeks and if the pain still persists, ask him about a bone scan again.
The chances that it is metastasis are very low. Do not worry and try to remeber if any postural cause or any accidental injury could be the cause of this pain.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

I didnt have the pain before starting chemo....ever.  I had stage 2 a. tumor 1.8 cm, one lymth node positive....I had a mastectomy with clean margins...can it metastisize that quickly?

My oncologist said that a bone scan wasnt necessary at this point due to my age (39 at the time) and my relative good health.....

I am now completely freaked out.....

Hi,
Your doctor is right and you could be having the pain due to the neulasta - it is known to cause pain at the wound site or muscle , bone and joint pains too. But you also could be having the pains due to possible breast cancer metastasis.
Breast cancer is known to reach the brain, bones and liver by metastasis - these three being the most common sites. You should watch out for any abnormal features that would alert you on any of these systems getting involved. Report any such symptoms or signs to your oncologist immediately.
At this point it would be advisable to ask him whether a bone scan should be done. Also ask him if pain relief medication and physiotherapy / physical therapy would help you with the pain. Try local application of some analgesic gel and warm compresses.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
