oophorectomy

oophorectomy

Breast cancer recurrance with estrogen positive.  Not eligible to do BRACA testing but no family history of cancer.  Oncologist reccomends ovary removal.  Recurrance rate is low but it was even lower the first time.  Had mastectomy and radiation.  Close to menopause at age 54. Scared to death about long term side effects especially of heart disease and parkinsons as have family history of both. Also concerned about increased long term mortality rate. Confused and scared.  My oncologist wants an answer.  Could not take Tamoxifen.  Any information or reading or others opinions would greatly be appreciated.

I want to make sure I understand your post clearly. Please correct me if I've misread it.

You have had breast cancer and then had a recurrence of breast cancer.

Were both breast cancers estrogen positive?

If so, I would really consider the ooph. But more than that I would look at all the factors.

You weren't able to tolerate Tamoxifen? Why not try the aromatase inhibitors? They control

the estrogen produced by the ovaries and the adrenals and the fat in your body.  Having

ooph only takes care of one part of it. I would also remove all plastic products that heated

food or water touches that are NOT BPA FREE as that has now been linked to estrogen

production.

Best wishes.
