options for stage 0 papillary carcinoma

options for stage 0 papillary carcinoma

I have had a lumpectomy for papillary carcinoma, stage 0.  The surgeon has said the margins were not clear, so did a reexcision.  What are my options if he comes back and says margins are still not clear.  Do not want mastectomy.

This discussion is related to papillary carcinoma of breast.

Your surgeon is the best person to advise you regarding the options in your specific case, but it is generally considered very important to get clear margins, if at all posssible, when it comes to BC. (I just read a report that said when 2mm of clear margin is obtained, there is no residual diease in 98% of patients.)

You are fortunate  that your papillary carcinoma was caught at such an early stage, and that this type of cancer has a good prognosis..

I hope that all goes well for you, once adequate clear margins are obtained!

Best wishes...
