other sarcomas?

other sarcomas?

I am one year post diagnosis/surgery for malignant phylloides tumor.(5.9 cm intermediate grade, partial mastectomy no chemo/rads) Do I now have an increased risk for other types of sarcomas occurring in my body, or just the usual risk of recurrance of phylloides in my breast? Do i have an increased risk of "normal breast cancer"?
Thank You

Dear Phyl, The treatment of choice for phyllodes tumor is surgery to remove the tumor plus a margin of normal tissue surrounding it.  If the margins surrounding the tumor are clear no further treatment is recommended.  If the margins were not clear or questionable radiation therapy would be recommended. Generally if the tumor would recur it would recur locally and if it would spread it would spread in a manner similar to sarcomas. The risk of recurrence after surgery with clear margins is low.  Pyllodes tumor is not a risk factor for other types of breast cancer.
