Hi...I'm not sure if I'm writing this in the right place, but I'm new here, so I hope you bear with me.
I had surgery on my right breast to remove a large lump. It was about an inch and a half in size and it grew so quickly that the doctor wanted it removed. My mother had breast cancer two years ago and thankfully it was all removed and she's doing well. the lump that was removed from my breast was not cancer, but I don't remember what they called it. the doctor said it was connected from under my armpit and all the way to my nipple. I'm concerned now because breast cancer runs in my family, not only did my mother have it (as I mentioned earlier), but others in her family as well.
Now I've had a red lump under my right breast and it's very sore. It's about the size of a dime on the surface of my skin and feeling the lump, it feels about the size of a small grape. What is weird to me is that I had the lump for about a month and a half, then it went away almost overnight. I didn't go to the doctors because my husband told me to wait and see if it goes away. I was grateful that it went away and felt that I did the right thing by not going to the doctors for something that went away on it's own. Now though, it has returned, overnight and is in the exact same spot. Same size, same pain - extremely painful to the touch and same size lump under my skin. I told my mother about it and she told me to go get it checked out. I had a normal mammogram done about 4 months ago. Does anyone know what this could possibly be? There's no head on it like a boil, it's smooth, round and very red. With my insurance I can't afford another mammogram. Is there anything I can do? I've tried heat and that doesn't help either.
thank you for any advice anyone may have.
Dear nan1202, Breast pain is a common breast symptom. The reason for breast pain is not clearly understood, and is not usually associated with breast cancer. Breast pain is sometimes associated with hormonal variations and is then called cyclical breast pain. Non-cyclical breast pain does not seem to be linked to hormonal variations and is often localized to one area of the breast tissue. Non-cyclical breast pain may or may not be the result of an injury to the breast. You may want to have your doctor check this for you. Through questioning about your symptoms and physical examination, they can help to put this into context for you.
