Thanks for the update and hoping that the surgery will be successful and definitely let you be free of worries!
Take care and good luck! :)
update I have now seen the specialist again another ultrasound has been done nothing found no lumps or papilloma , ducts were a little enlarged . Because i still have the bloody discharge I will be having operation to remove all ducts on the 3rd Oct and hopefully no further treatment will be needed . Specialist is very positive that this will solve my problem so not long to wait now :-)
Hi and thank you for the update.
Bloody discharge from the nipple can be associated with many different conditions..The bleeding can happen from inflammation in the ducts, reaction to drugs, dilatation of the mammary ducts(duct ectasia), and less commonly a cancerous tumor. The bloody discharge though, must be examined under the microscope(called cytological examination) for a diagnosis. So, I hope that soon the Breast Specialist will perform this test as it's definitely recommended when the discharge from the nipple is bloody.
Hoping that it's nothing serious ...Sending you my best wishes and good luck!
update back at docs this morning she has confirmed the discharge is still bloody but checked me over and said something is going on but said she didn`t think it was cancer. So she is still concerned about the blood so is emailing specialist to see if he wants to see me before the 17th August so feeling a little less stressed about it now :-)
thanks again for your reply I see specialist on the 17th Aug but going for a chat with GP tomorrow feeling alittle happier today just have days that I am stressing about it but hopefully will know more in a few weeks but will let you know how I am. :-)
Hi again,
Waiting another 3 weeks to see your doctor is not a long wait, especially that your biopsy report stated the the findings are benign. The tissue that was surgically removed,(whether a Papilloma or other) must have been examined by a pathologist and if cancerous cells were present, you would have certainly been told.So far ,nothing indicates that that you have breast cancer, but I can certainly understand your anxiety because of this continuous nipple discharge.
As I said before, nipple discharge can be caused by several benign conditions and rarely due to cancer.
Since you have dense breasts, and you seem to be very worried that something was missed,I would advise you to ask your doctor to order a MRI ,because this test is excellent to detect abnormality when a woman has dense breasts. Also it would be a good idea to seek a second opinion from a Breast Specialist who will reevaluate your case and treat you accordingly.
Please let us know how things are proceeding and what the doctor advises you.
Take care and good luck..
Hi thanks for reply it can be spontaneous or leaks when I press on any part of my breast . When I had mamogram done they said breast to dense to see anything ultra sound was told two masses found one 1.2cm and the other mm . Biopsy done was benign but was told they think it was a papilloma so operated to remove when removed they didn`t find papilloma in tissue they removed. I go back the 17th Aug as this has been going on since Feb just feel if anything seriously wrong the longer it takes to find it the greater the rise and my worries is it is breast cancer . I maybe over reacting but its so worrying that they are missing something .
Hi,
This could very well be due to your surgery or caused by benign conditions. It could also be caused if a woman is on birth control pills or tranquilizers.
I really doubt that you have nipple cancer, if the discharge is the only symptom.
You don't say if the discharge is spontaneous or it's caused when you squeeze the nipple, because if you do, it increases the Prolactin hormone level and the more you squeeze the nipple the more the discharge will continue.
Nipple discharge is rarely a sign of breast cancer, but it might be indicative of an underlying condition that requires treatment. On your next check up,your doctor will certainly be able to differentiate the serious underlying causes of nipple discharge from those that do not require any further evaluation.
In the meantime, take care to avoid nipple stimulation (including frequent checks for discharge) because it can actually make the discharge persist.
Best wishes...
