pathology report

At age 46 and 4 yrs post early menopause, I was diagnosed with left breast Papillary carcinoma/DCIS on 8/29/06. The pathology report included Atypical hyperplastic metaplasia. I've had radiation and took Tamoxifen for 6mos but, could not tolerate the sided effects of constant sweating and severe leg cramps. Am I putting myself at a higher risk for recurrence in either breast because I'm not taking the medication and how likely is it my right breast could also have this type of pathology

As you are post menopausal have you thought about taking Arimidex? It is only for post menopausal women. It does not protect the bones as tamoxifen does, but has a much better prognosis to prevent recurrence.  I have been on Arimidex for 4 yrs and althought I do get some hot flashes, I would rather suffer these than have a bc recurrence. It is however, very much a personal choice. I am afraid I can't answer your question as to whether your right breast may have the same pathology but someone else may. Try posting on the part of the forum here the nurse answers - she is very helpful and knowldgeable.

Liz.
