phyllodes tumor

by sunworshipper, Nov 05, 2009 09:01AM
i was diagnosed with a low grade borderline malignant phyllodes tumor 2 and half years ago when i was living in England, i had a lumpectomy and follow up mammograms and was told that it was breast cancer, i have now moved to Spain and have had my first check ups and have been told by the oncologist that i did´nt have breast cancer as it was a borderline tumor, could you please let me know if this was breast cancer as i have been told two different things and am not sure whether to get a second opinion.  I now have to have MRI scans as they have said that i have alot of density in my breasts which make it difficult to make a diagnosis of any lumps that i have.

I would think that the new Dr. may have a different opinion regarding this diagnosis. Did He/She have all the reports including the Pathology final before an opinion was given ?? Complete past history including films and reports would be needed to venture such an opinion. MRI is very valuable when dense breast tissue is involved.    Regards ....

This is just a little bit of what is listed for this condition......

Phyllodes tumors are a fibroepithelial tumor composed of an epithelial and a cellular stromal component. They may be considered benign, borderline, or malignant depending on histologic features including stromal cellularity, infiltration at the tumor's edge, and mitotic activity. All forms of phyllodes tumors are considered breast cancer, as even the benign form is regarded as having malignant potential.

They are classified as a fibroepithelial tumor by ICD-O, but not by MeSH.
