My sister had a mammograph and a mass of 2.9 by 3.2 cm was found. It was describe as heterogeneous. A sonographic evaluation of the same upper left part of her breast also detected a hypoechoic heterogeneous mass measuring 2.1 2.2 by 2.3 cm. Please can some one tell me what that means, she is scheduled for a biopsy on february 12 but she is soo worried and i can´t see her this way for 12 more days. Any suuggestions please.

This means that the mass that was found gives off less echos than normal (hypoechoic) and is made up of different types of cells rather than only one type (heterogeneous). A biopsy is the only way to tell exactly what type of mass this is and whether it is benign or malignant. I'm sure both you and your sister are worried; we all worry when something is found that isn't normal. Worrying doesn't help but it's somehting that is a natural response. No suggestions except try to be as calm as possible and know that your sister is evedently receiving excellent medical care.  Kindest regards ....

There is always the possibility of any breast mass being benign. It's just a matter of waiting for the results of the biopsy which is never pleasant ... most women say the waiting is the worst.  Kindest regards ...
