problems after lumpectomy

by Brendaj39, Oct 15, 2007 10:07PM
I had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago.  The incision looks fairly good, but I have some painful lumps in the breast now that range from round and hard to oblong and. My breast feels harder than normal and the skin is very sensitive. The incision sight is along the top edge of the nipple and the lumps started in the bottom part of my breast. I wanted see if you could tell me what is causing this and if I should be worried about it being cancer.  I do not my results from the pathologist as of yet.

Thank you

Hi,
The usual side effects following lumpectomy include - temporary swelling of the breast, breast tenderness, breast soreness and hardness due to scar tissue that forms in the surgical site. Wait for the pathology reports to come in. the side affects usually resolve in a few days to a few weeks. Do schedule an appointment with your surgeon post surgery for a clinical evaluation, so that he will be able to tell you for sure whether what you experiencing are the surgery side effects or some thing else. Goodluck.
