prognosis

Hi - I am 48 years old and just diagnosed with DCIS grade 3 (area of microcalification was a little over 1 cm); 90% of my cells tested positive for ER and 30% positive for PR.  Had the BRACA test done and it was negative.  I've decided to have a double mastectomy.  As I have not had my surgery I do not know whether there had been any lymph node involvement.  Based on this information, what is my prognosis and is there anything else I can do to improve my odds of not having a recurrence or metastasis?

Bilat. mastectomy seems a bit radical for DCIS but that's a strictly personal decision. Your treatment plan and prognosis will depend on any lymph node involvement so it would be impossible to speculate at this point. Other than the appropriate treatment following surgery I don't know of anything to reduce the risk of recurrance. Once diagnosed there is always the possibility of a recurrance.  wishing you a speedy and uneventful recovery from your surgery.
