prophylactic mastectomy

Has anyone ever had a prophylactic mastectomy just because they were tired of having mri's, and mammos every 6 months?

The only family history I have is my dad's sister at age 75, and her daughter (my cousin) at age 51yo.

I doubt it but there may be someone out there. I can't imagine a Surgeon doing the procedure for this reason. This is a very drastic measure just because you are tired of testing every  6 months. I personally would not necessarily agree with MRI that often as long as you are having the follow-up mammograms and nothing of consequence is seen on them.

Yes, I have thought about it.  My mom had BC at 38 and I am sick of being poked and prodded and getting screened every 6 months produces so much anxeity.  My friend's cousin had hers removed for this reason and also because I believe she tested positive for the gene.  I am not sure I am at this point yet, but I am considering getting the gene test done.  Good luck to you.
