quitting tamoxifen

quitting tamoxifen

How long do I have to be off tamoxifen to get pregnant?  I took it for 8 months and have decided to get off of it to get pregnant. I am a 1.5 year survivor with stage 1.  How long before tamoxifen will be out of my system?

thank you

Dear Becky, As you know from our prior answers it is generally recommended that pregnancy be delayed 2 to 3 years after adjuvant treatment is completed.  The delay is not because of the influence of the pregnancy on the cancer, but rather to delay childbearing until after the time of greatest risk of recurrence of the tumor.

Elimination of tamoxifen from the system is reported as greater than 7 days.  When hormone levels normalize enough to allow pregnancy to occur? that would vary between individuals.

Thank you for your response.   I appreciate all the help.

As far as time to delay pregnancy - I feel after much research that a wait of at least 2 years might be inappropriate for someone that had a stage 1, non-aggressive cancer.  The actual chance of my cancer recurring I feel is low enough that I might now move on with my life.   I do believe that a wait of 1-2 years is more appropriate for my circumstances.

I respect your answer and really appreciate you responding to my question.

thank you
