scar tissue pain

scar tissue pain

I had a lumpectomy in 2002. I had chemo and radiation. I now have alot of scar tissue in my right breast where the lump was removed. It feels like the scar tissue is pulling on my skin in the left breast. I have swelling inbetween the
breasts and it is painful. What can I do about this. In the past year the scar tissue has grown. Everytime I try to work
out in any way. Lite weights . My chest gets really sore and I wake up at night in pain. It effects the left breast. Like I have
pulled a muscle. But I think the scar tissue is effecting the left breast. Please help me.

Dear Madyjames:  You might ask your doctor for a referral to an occupational therapist or to a massage therapist who is certified in post breast cancer massage if this is appropriate.  If this is truly scar tissue these experts may be helpful in providing strategies to work with this.  You must get approval from your doctor before embarking on this, however.
