scared-have to have another biopsy

by brada, Apr 27, 2008 10:17AM
i had my 1st mammogram at age 40,three years ago and had to have a biopsy and then ended up having a open biopsy that turned out to be benign. Every mammogram I have had since then has been ok. I just had my annual mammogram march 16,2008 and got a call a few days later that I have a new area of calcifications that are grouped and i have to go back in a few days for a biopsy, my mother passed away from breast cancer 14yrs ago, any words of wisdom, what are the caneces of this not being cancer?

i had breast cancer in 2001.  both of my breasts are loaded with microcalcifications, some grouped in clusters others not.  i have had 6 biopsies for calcifications since 2001, all of which were benign.  i am now facing another biopsy or a wait and see follow up in 6 months.  i havent spoken to my dr. yet.  only the radiologist.  im very scared also, because if this turns out to be something i probably am facing mastectomy.  the only thing i can say is that other than the one breast cancer, everything else has been fine.  its very scary.  i too dont want another biospy

I had the same issues.  After being diagnosed with early invasive BC and having a mastectomy, I had 2 subsequent biopsies in the other breast.  I personally felt better opting for an elective mastectomy on the other side.  I couldn't cope with the repeated mammos and callbacks for biopsies when new microcalcifications appeared.

That was 14 years ago.  I couldn't be happier now.
