i am 43, I recently found a huge lumpLumps in the breasts in my right breast. after getting a diagnostic mammogram and a diagnostic ultrasound (of the breast in question) i was told that i actually have two lumpsLumps in the breasts in the right breast, the mammogram did not pick it up, the ultrasound did, and that they are both cysts and to leave them alone. the one i found myself is HUGE and very painfulPainful menstrual periods; it has been hurting for several weeks and does not seem to fade with my monthly schedule at all. my question is should i seek a second opinion? are cysts commonly misdiagnosed?
No point suffering pain if something can be done about it.
An ultrasound clearly shows up cyst. If they were not cysts the ultrasound would not be able to go through the lumpsLumps in the breasts. So I would say you can be quite confident of the results and also breast cancer does not tend to be painful, but cysts can be.
If the cysts are that painful then I would insist that they either be drained or removed surically. There is no reason to put up with that much pain when a simple needle stick to drain the cyst can be done .... probably in the office (depending on the Surgeon).
I have a lump in my breast its tiny just like a pea had a mammogram done they said its a cyst can they be sure i am 42 years old my mother developed breast cancer at 39 had her breast removed and chemo and radio therapy then agian she developed breast cancer on the same side 15 years later same story same treatment now she has secondaries in her spine should i take the doctors word that it is a cyst even though it is a breast cancer unit
