single or double mastectomy

I have very small breasts and originally had decided to have lumpectomy and now have learned that the second small tumor that lab results said was benign will also be taken out. Because of the size of the larger tumor it will leave my breast so deformed that it would never fill in. Based on that I decided to have a mastectomy. I quandry is, do I remove the healthy breast? My oncologist says he could test me for the "cancer gene" but based on all collected data says it would be very low.

Dear queenbee:  Whether to remove a healthy breast is a very personal decision.  There is no absolute right or wrong.  You might benefit from a discussion with a genetic counselor who can assess your risk and discuss options as they pertain to your situation.
