slight lump in breast....which has gotten bigger over the pask week???

i found a lump last week....and in over a week it feels like it has gotten bigger. im confused at what it could be, was very scared it was cancer but do cancer lumps grow that fast? im only 18... and am soo scared. Going to go to the doctor soon...don't really want her to tell me any bad news though. :( One breast looks slightly lopsided now...im so confused. Anyone help?

Dear priyazaccount:  Lumps can be many things, including cysts and benign fibroadenomas.  Cancer is possible at 18 but very uncommon.  The general rule of thumb is that if you feel a lump, it requires further evaluation.  Your doctor will be better able, after examination, to make appropriate recommendations.

Go to the doctor and dont let them tell you that you are too young.  Even if you dont have BC in your family its still possible.  Mamograms and ultrasounds are not reliable either.  I am 29 and I have BC- I have been going to the docs for breast lumps since i was in HS.  I kept being told they were fibros.  They could not see anything on any mams or ultrasound-young breast tissue is too dense.  Ask for needle aspiration if they say its a cyst or a needle biopsy (if lump is large enough) just to be safe.  Check out www.youngsurvivalcoalition.com and look at the survivor stories.  Some of these girls were 17 yrs old. Please let me know what they say.
