soreness in one spot -36 year old

Hello - I am 36. For the last month I have had a very sore spot in the fleshy part of my right breast part way between my armpit and my nipple. When I press on the spot the pain radiates to my nipple and to under my arm. The muscle under this area is not sore.  I have never understood how to feel for lumps or masses, because my breasts seem to be very lumpy and they have different consistencies. There doesn't appear to be anything more lumpy in this area (I really can't tell). I have not worn my normal bra for 2 weeks, and I avoid any contact with the spot thinking it might be a bruise, but the pain hasn't subsided at all. I have a doctor's appointment in 3 weeks (I live in Canada, and the wait times are a little too long), the wait is making me a bit anxious and I was wondering if this sounds like anything in particular to any of you experts!
Thank you
DL

Dear muskokaquestion, Breast pain is a common breast symptom.  The reason for breast pain is not clearly understood, and is not usually associated with breast cancer.  Breast pain is sometimes associated with hormonal variations and is then called cyclical breast pain.  Noncyclical breast pain does not seem to be linked to hormonal variations and is often localized to one area of the breast tissue.  Noncyclical breast pain may or may not be the result of an injury to the breast.  It is not uncommon for breast tissue to feel lumpy, particularly in young women.  Many times, the lumpiness will also swell in concert with the menstrual cycle. This is also when the breast may feel sore.   Without being able to evaluate including physical examination it is difficult to say what this is, your doctor should be able to help to put your symptoms into perspective based on evaluation.
