spiculations on mammogram

The radiologist and my doctor easily felt a lump.  Mammogram showed spiculations. Radiologist said tissue dense and couldn't measure--couldn't define area.  Suggested MRI vs. biopsy as next best step for accurate diagnosis.
This all happened today, so upset and looking for any info or guidance.  Tx, Groceries

Did your mammogram report include a BIRADS number? A spiculated mass is of concern because an irregular border on a mass has a higher likelihood of being malignant. Not all spiculated masses are cancerous though, as fat necrosis, a benign condition, can also present as a spiculated mass.
Because of your dense breasts, they are having trouble getting a good image. An ultrasound or MRI might help with that. If more imaging shows that you indeed have a spiculated mass, then they are definitely going to recommend biopsy. A biopsy is the only way to confirm the presence or absence of cancer in a suspicious mass. Good luck! Maybe it will just turn out to be fat necrosis the way mine did.
