sterotactic biopsy

by shicago, Nov 04, 2009 10:36AM
Hi ladies I had my sterotactic biopsy today. I was originally schedule for Oct. 20th but I had the flu. My question is my surgeon seem to have a difficult time getting  samples, this went on for over an hour. He said after looking at the picutres it looks like we got some of it we'll have to see what the biopsy report says. I heard the techs say it (mass) had changed. I Left this appt with 4sutures in my breast, has anyone heard of this happening to anyone else? should I be looking for another surgeon? I saw the samples they appeared large to me. next appt Nov.11 for results

I see nothing unusual in what you describe .... the biopsy results will certainly answer your concerns and I see no need to consult another Physician. Stereotactic Biopsies take considerable time and your experience sounds quite common. Getting "some of it" is what a biopsy does ... only takes samples of the suspicious area.  Regards ....

Well, I will say that I left the stereotactic biopsy with no sutures just a bandaid on one spot. . . and it took about a half hour.  It sounds like your experience was not easy.  As far as mistreatment though, probably not.  They were being thorough and trying to get the right area which proved difficult.  I was given a 50/50 option for having the diagnostic stereotactic biopsy or the surgical biopsy in which they would have been able to remove more if needed.  I chose the stereotactic with the understanding that I might end up in surgery as well.  The hardest part is waiting . . . I'm sorry you are going through that.  Many a biopsy ends in benign results and future close monitering (as mine did) and I hope for this outcome for you.  Best of luck.
