sticky, yellow, nipple discharge

sticky, yellow, nipple discharge

I am 44.  I had a mammogram in March and everything was fine.  However, about a week ago I started having an ache in my right breast.  Nothing terrible, just a mild ache.  I went to the doc last week.  She examined me and did not feel any lumps.  Said if it didn't go away to call her.  Well about 3 days ago I started getting a sticky, yellow discharge from the nipple of my right breast.  I did call the doc and on Friday I have a diagnostic mammogram and possible ultra sound.  I am very worried.  Does anyone have any insight or info they might share with me.  Thanks

Hi,
Nipple discharge is rarely a sign of breast cancer, but it might be indicative of an underlying condition that requires treatment.
A nipple discharge is alarming only if it's persistent and comes out without squeezing,if it's
bloody and associated with a lump, nipple or skin changes etc.
It's a good thing that you are having a Mammogram to have this problem further investigated.
In the meantime, take care to avoid nipple stimulation( including frequent checks for discharge) because it can actually make the discharge persist.
