tamoxafin and pulmonary embolisms

I have been on tamoxifen for 5 weeks now after completing chemo and in the process of completing radiotherapy for breast cancer.  I developed bilateral pulmonary embolisms a few days ago due to a dvt in my thigh which i was unaware of.  I am on clexane injections for the next 6 months.  Is it safe to continue on the tamoxifen? Is there an alternative to this medication that does not have such serious side effects.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

The oncologists have advised me to continue on the tamoxifen for the time being, but as you can guess, I am really worried about doing that.

What did your doctors tell you? I am not an expert on this but I would be very hesitant to continue taking the tamoxifen. It is usually also prescribed after radiation and not at the same time with radiation.

Yes, there are other drugs, much more expensive, and also they come with many potential side effects.

Still, make sure you get good advice.
