tamoxifen

I recently had a lumpectomy for DCIS and started radiation.  They are suggesting tamoxifen and I am not sure I want to take this medication because of some of the side effects.  I would appreciate any input from people who have actually taken this medication and can tell me what they experienced.  One publication listed a small percentage of possible liver and digestive tract cancers they're not sure yet if this could happen.  I currently take medication for G.I. problems and therefore this possibility scares me.  I would like to make a well informed decision and collect as much information as I can.  I would appreciate any input I can get.  Thank you.

My girlfriend took tamoxifen for 5 years as it said it would prevent breast cancer.  Well she did get it but fortunately it didn't spread and all cancer was removed during surgery.  I'm not sure of side effects.
