tamoxifin and fatigue

tamoxifin and fatigue

I finished chemo last May (2001) and 35 sessions of radiation Aug. 4. I felt great and had no fatigue until two weeks ago-two months after starting tamoxifin (tamoxifen). Also, I've experienced a slight bit of intermittant light-headedness. The red/white counts on my bloodwork are normal, my onc. says.

Could these be tamoxifin (tamoxifen) related and are they likely to abate after some time. Also, will increasing my exercise level help with the fatigue.
Thank You

Dear vagnew:  The usual side effects of tamoxifen are hot flashes and intermittent nausea.  Sometimes women report vaginal bleeding or menstrual changes.  There have been some rare reports of light-headedness but fatigue is not reported in the literature.  I wonder if the radiation has caught up with you because this is a very common side effect of radiation therapy.  You should let your oncologist know how you are feeling, so that nothing gets overlooked.  Exercise may help with the fatigue.

I have been on tamoxifin (tamoxifen) for 4 yrs. and have experienced both extreme leg fatique and overall fatique along with weight gain, hot flahes that are difficult to control.  I excercise 3-4 times a week and am very active.  This past yr. the weight gain gas really gotten out of hand no matter what I do.

This is the second time I have been on Tamoxifen. I took it after chemo and radiation therapy from 1992 to 1997. In 1999 I had a second mastectomy and was then given Taxol. I am now back on Tamoxifen.  Yes, I experience fatigue.  I am usually in bed by 8 at the latest.  I awaken at 5 to get ready for work, which is not terribly strenuous....college professors are not ditch diggers, as you know.
I also started losing hair last October. Thyroid tests are all negative. Oncologist dismisses it, I guess he has seen too many bald people.  I lost some hair in 1992 and all hair in 1999, so I do not relish being bald again.
Anyone have any suggestions since I am taking early retirement because of the fatigue and probable mild depression.  Have not had a hot-flash since about September 2001, although from 1999 to then I would pour buckets from the neck up....embarrassing in front of a class of college students.  Don't even have night sweats anymore.

iH ave been taking tamoxifin (tamoxifen) for almost two years after having one breast partially removed.  I have severe burning and bright redness around my vagina making intercourse very painful and impossible.  My doctor suggest I use KY jelly profusely but that only causes the pain and burning to increase.  Is there any treatment for this condition?
