teary eyes

teary eyes

I just finish my chemo about 8 weeks ago.  I took 9 treatment of Taxatere.  My eyes are tearing so much I cannot even see  clearly.  I went to Opthomologist.  He tried to scoop the tear ducts on one side and said my left side is blocked and may need to go to plastic surgeon.  But now even the eye he thought is going to work after scooping is still tearing the same way.   I am afraid to go thru  plastic surgeon.  Would it go away by itself??  Any suggestion?

Dear nagal,1:  Excessive tearing is a documented side effect of taxotere.  This usually resolved in time.  There are reports of a small percentage of people getting chronic dacryocystitis.  Dacryocystitis is a condition where there is inflammation and infection in the tear duct.  Without evaluation, it is not possible for us to speculate on what this might be.  An ophthalmologist is the doctor who is best equipped to diagnose and treat any disorder of the eye.

I have had 6 out of 8 chemo treatments and I did have a problem with eyes watering.  My Onco. said that it was caused from the medicine drying out my eyes and they were watering trying to stop the dryness.  She said to use eye regular, over the counter, eye drops several times a day.  I did and it worked.  It took about two days for it to start to help, but now I just use the drops when my eyes start to water and it is not a problem.  I don't know if this will help you or not, but it is worth a try.  Good Luck.

Hi,

It's been 5 years since my Chemo and my eyes are still watery but are getting better since my eyelashes have grown back. It's something I still deal with.  I've tried all of the eye drop products but they did not eliminate the problem.......they helped but the relief was only temporary. It was especially bad in the winter when I had to go outside.
