titanium clip

I have breast implants. Is this clip going to cause my implant to burst?  Is the clip necessary?  I go for a mammi every year, if it isnt cancerous cant they just check it every year without marking it.  I know me, I will wake up every day and worry I may do something to make this clip move and puncture my implant, either at the gym or running or anything!!!  I dont want to sign a release form.  Where do I go from here?  Im having the biopsy done in a week.

When a woman has a minimally invasive breast biopsy, such as a core or stereotactic breast biopsy, the standard of care is to place a tiny stainless steel or titanium clip on the spot where the tissue was sampled.

The clip serves as a landmark to identify the area that was biopsied on future mammograms. If there's ever a need for surgical removal of more tissue, then the surgeon can use the clip as a bull's-eye marker during surgery.

You could have it removed, but you shouldn't. The clip will be automatically removed if the surgeon does an open excisional procedure on that area. But removing it just to get it out of your body will make it harder for a radiologist to read your future mammograms.

The titanium chip is the size of a "Pinhead" and will not "travel" anywhere -- not to the heart, not to the brain, nowhere. It will remain within the breast tissue, in the exact spot it is placed, until surgically removed.
Ultimately it's your choice to have it removed or not.You can certainly discuss it with your treating doctors.Best wishes.
